Richard A. von Gnechten
Chief Financial Officer
Rick serves as Sapere’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and is responsible for corporate finance and accounting for the company and its affiliates. In addition, Rick jointly serves as Chief Operating Officer.
Prior to joining Sapere, Rick spent six years as a professional CFO to various public and private companies, providing corporate finance, accounting, capital-raising and strategic planning services. He previously served as CFO for Hawaiian Electric Company (HECO), a $2 billion diversified U.S. public corporation. As CFO at HECO he managed corporate finance, accounting, SEC report-ing, financial analysis and risk management; managed Sarbanes-Oxley, SEC and NYSE compliance; executed debt, preferred and equity capital transactions; and supported a $750 million master pension trust. Rick also previously ran strategic planning and customer service for HECO and served as legislative intern for State Senate President. Prior to that, he ran two health care businesses, Inland East Clinics in San Diego and Council on Health Costs in Charlotte, and has taught finance and strategic planning for undergraduate and MBA students.
Rick holds a Master of Business Administration from Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business, is a Financial Management Program graduate of Stanford’s Graduate School of Business and holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Denver.
Rick, who was born and raised in Hawaii, is married to Denice (an attorney) and is the proud father of three daughters, Jacqueline, Rachel, and Danielle. Rick and Denice are active members of Carmel Baptist Church and Rick serves on the Board of Directors for Carmel Christian School.
